Posted this at Armaholic after I read a rather snotty response to a new member there by one of the moderators (Foxhound - even slammed a guy for not picking an avatar!). Maybe this will help others having the same problem I'm having:
Well, I'm quite good with PC's having managed and installed mods with Falcon 4.0, Lock-On, etc, and newer games like Combat Mission BN, but I find the ARMA mod install process unclear and overly complicated for such a modern game. I just the other day bought ARMA 2:CO from Steam, and judging by the number of people buying it from there and the unlikelihood of finding it on a store shelf, this is going to be a hotter topic in the near future. Those links you posted DO NOT explain installing mods to Steam with the current folder configuration that Steam installs with this game and they need to be updated. Most of the threads I find regarding Steam here are from 2010.
An example issue I'm having with mods for ARMA is that it's never clear if the mod is specific to ARMA 2, or can be used with Arrowhead as well, or is it one install for the newest Combined Ops version? And which directory in SteamApps/Common does it go into then? Both if you want to use the mod for both?
Also, several threads (and CURRENT mod install readmes) say that you first need to enable the Steam version to 'run both at once' through a series of complicated command line parameters, but after much digging here I found a post saying that after the 1.60 patch, the CO version works together automatically. Bottom line, it's very tough to find a good step-by-step set of instructions on this site or any other on installing mods for this game with the Steam version. Any help??

I mean, I guess it would just be a guy who you know, grabs bananas and runs. Or, um, a banana that grabs things. I don't know. Why would a banana grab another banana? Those are the kind of questions I just don't want to answer. -Michael Bluth
